How do I know which glow plug reamer I need?

I have a W124 1991 300d. I got my glow plugs, but how do I know which glow plug reamer I need? I guess they come in different mm widths and lengths. And would just a drill bit work? That way I don't have to spend more money or have another tool laying around the house.

Thanks,

Widths are the same except for the old loop plugs. 7mm
Lengths are different between motors.
All pencil plug 617, and 603 up to 1989 are same, 602 and later 603 should be longer. 606 are very long.

The tool section should differentiate based on your vehicle year.

I only find two lengths. Use the 12mm x 54mm length. The 94 mm length is for the 606.

You should easily be able to find which Reamer you need by looking at the Pelican Plarts Tool Section.

Is using a drill bit okay, or is that asking for trouble?

I know a lot of people use a drill bit, just wonder if that's safe. It'd be NICE to not have to have another tool like a reamer hanging around the house, but if I have to get one, then I will.

If you need to use a drill bit, tear up a glow plug body, and put the bit in it.

I've done it both ways, reamer and DIY drill bit inserted/jb welded into a GP(gotta leave it overnight-15hrs to cure making for a 2 day job). Frankly I was worried the DIY unit would not hold up if I hit really bad carbon, bit would come loose and end up in the prechamber. That didnt happen, but could I guess.

OTOH, with the reamer, no worries about that at all and no waiting. Same procedure for both use grease and clean the flutes often.
