Exhaust leak???

Okay, so what o what can be causing this?

I noticed a scrap in my muffler and assume I went over a rock. I swear I heard an exhaust leak before this happened but now I don't know. I assumed one day I would need new exhaust but now?

If memory serves me right, this is a metal on metal connection with nothing that could be to lose? Thoughts??

Looking at the soot mark..

The downpipe has a flare that's held by a ring that bolts to the manifold. Yes, it can come loose. Looks easy enough to tighten after dousing with penetrant. Loosen the nuts then tighten evenly to make sure the pipe meets the manifold squarely.

Is that a bung at the end of the manifold? Did this engine have an EGT or is that where naturally aspirated 617s draw EGR?

I will have to give that a try!

This is a euro, it had a crude egr made, they(dealer?) taped and dyed both manifolds and just ran a straight pipe to each.

EGR Tube??

Now that I think about it, it may very well be lose as the intake was sucking the exhaust in and thus making it not so noticeable before.

You will need to reduce the size of the formula to make bubble mix liquid (My Wife teaches pre-school). On Gallown of Water to 1 cup of Dawn Dish Washing Soap.

Put it in a Spray Bottle and spray it on the cold exhasut and start the Engine. If you have an exhaust leak it develop bubbles over the leak.

Give the excess to some kids to make bubbles.

^^ Thanks! I have heard of that but never knew the "secret" Formula.

I wish that was possible! Finding kids around here is like finding a w123 amg. I was really good friends with a kid next door his dad was a dead beat treating him like a 2 year and hes now 10 grandma didn't have time so I became a big brother...they didn't like the way he was maturing and looking up to me....sad...mean while my mom was just complaining that the elder at her church did not molest the 3 boys and 1 girl he was just "hugging" them...OH LORD SAVE THIS POOR SOUL

That was the issue! On the other side I guess a nut came off? and a PO or shop put on a threaded nylon nut. It was extremely lose, the one pictured is also lose but I can't free it. Once the 78 is back on the road, I will cut the frozen one off and replace both with new nuts n bolts..
