Sales rep I just talked to says 200K on odometer. I'm going to take a look tomorrow morning & report back what I find. It might be coming home w/ me if they can show me no 'black death' or SBC dtc's . Carfax says accident free.
I see it's still on the dealers website. Any issues?

I test drove it... but a couple mb dealer cars with less mileage & clean VMIs, carfaxes asking similar prices surfaced in my search of south Florida too so I felt compelled to check them out as well b4 committing. I looked over a really nice 05 at Fields Mercedes-Benz in Lakeland & test drove an 06 @ a buy here, pay here lot in Davie. Davie car has dvd nav & drives immaculately w/ 141K but a brake message in multidisplay makes me think sbc module from what I've gathered on my research here. Davie dealer wants to sell it without rectifying brake message & other red-flags I noticed ultimately gave me cold feet on that vehicle. Price has dropped to from $7990 to $6990 on that one in last 2 weeks. There is a also a nice looking 06 at Mercedes-Benz of Pembrook Pines that I've yet to go see. Pictures look good but there is an odd looking area just below front passenger door in pictures & carfax, vmi indicate an accident in it's history. Price on that one just dropped from $8780 to $8650 today. I do want to see that one in person but work has been hectic lately so haven't had a good opportunity to do so. The one I posted accelerates very well, 0-60 in ~8 seconds but I can smell a slight hint of burned diesel in engine compartment & power steering pump is making an odd 'load' kind of sound that makes me wonder how much longer it'll play nice until failure. Actual MB dealership cars of this vintage are challenging to find here in Florida but being able to print-out VMIs & have those records available to review makes it a worthwhile endevour.

I was out of town for about 3 weeks and the task of bringing it up to date was too daunting for this time of year.

It's still useful to see what options are out there and what percent of the cars have them.

If anyone else wants to update the spreadsheet, feel free.

Fewer of these seem to be showing up at dealers....there was only one listed nationwide yesterday. Is this seasonal, a result of lower diesel prices, or wider recognition that these are great vehicles?

None of the above, IMO. When any car model gets to this age, they fall off the resale availability chart, mostly because they're relegated to being a down-line use vehicle in that particular owner's stable of vehicles. The reasons are mostly non-usage for various reasons. Just as any previous MB diesel sedan.

There have been fewer and fewer with low, low miles on them in the ranks of dealers cars I shop. I do not monitor individual/private sellers though. I'm still looking for several to purchase when dealer-listed. The older they get, and the lower their mileage - the more valuable they become on sale day.

Thought this might be of interest....I've corresponded with a guy in NH who's selling his CDI because he just got an E250 Bluetec. Says it's been a great car...almost wants to cry at the thought of selling it. Get this: his neighbor has a CDI with 380,000 miles on it and all he's had to do is replace the SBC module and one injector. That's pretty impressive.

GregMN / OP

GregMN, I'd sure appreciate a heads-up on any lower-mileage (sub-50K miles) '05/'06es that may pop up, if you happen to notice any/? Thanks a bunch!

There's one on craigslist in Portland (Hillsboro) Oregon with 47k+ miles. But that dealer wants $25k for it.

They are nice and I've got one on the list to pick up over next few years but for right now I'm still enjoying the 98 E300. Big step change going from it (indirect injection engine) to the CDI in regards to head/injection design. Lot lower priced injection parts prices on the indirect injection engine and it's design type has deep roots in Mercedes history.

I bought one today. It's a 2006 Iridium silver with charcoal interior and the premium package. I bought it from the original owner and it has 77k miles on it. He kept impeccable records and had it religiously dealer serviced. A VERY nice car for sure.

I've been working with the owner on the deal for two weeks. My wife and I drove from Portland to the San Francisco area to get it. Some of you may have seen it advertised on Craigslist.

I just sold my 1979 300SD last Friday to a buddy who just had to have the car. It was a beauty as well. 90k miles and in perfect rust free condition. The interior was showroom new. I just hope I can keep this new one as nice as the '79 for many years to come.

First up? Some Weathertech floor mats and the Green Diesel Engineering ECU tune.

We'll be making the 600 mile drive home on Tuesday. Maybe on one tank of fuel?????
