124 ball joint failure the wheels will fall off almost too. Happened to someone i sold a car too. They just kept driving and driving with a squeaky ball joint. like 6 months. They were trying to get it replaced by someone who didn't have the press and they were being cheap and not taking it to the mechanic. Even though they were totally rich and lived in a million dollar house. Lucky it was just in town and not going fast.

Haven't read all the posts in detail, but if it still persists try coasting in a safe location - not sure if you can do it with the 722.6 box although this would rule out drive train/box.

The wishbone bushes on the front lower arms are probably worn out.
The rear bush is solid but the fronts are the same as those fitted to w124's as in two halves.

My recently aqquired w210 gets into a weird wobbling feeling on rough roads (read bad potholed UK roads) and prying with a bar I can move the front of the lower arm half an inch in any direction I want , but the rear is solid and has no movement.

These bushes wearing are a common w210 issue

I think you are mistaken by the bushings, the W124 has the incredibly solid 2 piece bushings in both holes of the control arm. The w210 has a hydraulic type soft bushing in the front hole - this is the one that fails and causes the arm to walk.

Most of these are replaced with poly urethane items because the hydraulic ones while being softer to give a more cushioned ride - are afterall a failure point.

I picked up the ball joints today and some tranny fluid. 34.00 for ball joints at the dealer. I tried to get sway bar bushings but they would have to order them. Looks like i'll wait and try those. I gave it a good look and took a few pics. I'm going through the wiz to see what i can learn no how to test.
