Going for higher wattage is going to cause problems over the long run unless you put in proper relays for them. It's not worth the effort IMHO.
all the ones on ebay were the higher wattage ones and i couldn't find any normal ones so i wanted to make sure. i wil try to find a normal 55W one. thanks

The standard 55W H4's can be obtained at any auto parts store. Several forum members have strong feelings about the Phillips or the Osram bulbs. I personally use the Hella's plus 50% which seem to do a bit better than the standard H4's, but, I'm not sure that they are worth the additional cost (about $10.00 per bulb for the + 50%). If you are interested in Hella, Susquehanna Motorsports has everything that you could possibly need.

depo installation

I installed the two Depo's on the SDL today. The installation did not go as smoothly as I would have hoped.

1) The six pin plug from the dealer worked just perfectly. The pins were easily removed from the old plug and installed in the new plug. For reference to all, the following site has the electrical connections:

http://www.mbcanada.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=554

2) The two upper mounting clips aligned with the body just fine.

3) The lower mounting clips on the Depo's do not align with the two holes in the steel bracket that secures the bottom of the headlight.

For the left headlight, another hole must be drilled in the bracket to obtain the capability to use two screws. The original hole in the bracket remains in alignment with the vehicle body.

The right headlight also requires the bracket to be drilled for an additional hole for the headlight, in similar manner to the left headlight. However, it is not possible to maintain the original position of the bracket (laterally) with respect to the vehicle. The bracket is now positioned closer to the driver's side and the hole to secure it to the body of the vehicle does not align. To mount it to the vehicle requires a new hole to be drilled into the body, approximately 1.5 inches toward the driver's side. I used a 5/16 hole and 1/4 hardware. The existing hole in the bracket is suitable for up to 3/8 hardware.

I would like to know if anybody else has had difficulty aligning the bracket to the underside holes on the Depo's. It appears that the Depo's require the Euro bracket for proper function.

How do they look and work Brian? Can you still use the headlight wipers with them? Do they throw more light than the original set?

Well, it was getting late and I was fighting the skeeters while aiming them at the garage door. They put out a lot of light in a well defined pattern, however, not quite as good as the Hella's on the SD. The light output from the original headlights was so poor that these are a definite improvement.

I decided to remove the motors and the wipers during the install. The original wipers would look a bit ridiculous with these large headlights. They really need the Euro motors and wipers, however, the cost vs. benefit says to leave the SDL without the wipers.

Overall, I'm pretty pleased with the look of the headlights. The elimination of the cloudy plastic around the original headlight is definitely an improvement.

There's a set of W126 Bosch euro headlights at the local yard here in nice shape- but I have a W123. anyone want them? Yard cost is $120, pulling is $20 and you pay for shipping. Also there are euro for a W116.

Bosch Euros

William,

If Hattie does not want them, then I'll take them for the SD.

Hattie,

I already told him to go and get them. I'll bring them back up here. If you want them later, they're yours. Otherwise I'll put them on the SD. The SD really does not need the Euros. It has a set of Hella E-code replacement headlights that work fantastic.

At this time I really can't afford them anyway, I have to buy books for school in a few weeks.

Brian,

Did you ever get these? Do you have them? I would like to change out mine and found this thread while digging deeper.

Alan,

I did get these and put them on the SD. However, I think that William runs across them every so often, so you might just ask him to keep an eye out for them.
