Anyone tried these sport springs?

1999 Mercedes-Benz E300 Turbodiesel Sedan - Suspension Upgrades & Performance - Page 1

275.00 doesn't seem to awful bad if they really improve the handling. I don't particularly like lowering the car and reducing my ground clearance. Would just cutting the stock springs do the same thing?

Those springs have a progressive spring rate so no cutting you factory springs will not do the same thing because the factory springs have a linear spring rate. Progressive spring rate basically means they get stiffer as they compress more vs a linear spring rate which means the the stiffness of the spring remains constant as it compresses.

The prior owner put H&Rs on my E300.

Definitely improves the stance of the car, but it comes at a price.

I have to watch for every speed bump, pot hole, and curb stop. Even moderate speed bumps cause the front of the car to drag. And I really have to watch out for improperly graded driveway entrances, if there is a dip or a hump then I will probably catch it.

I (and my son) have caused damage to the car by hitting curb stops. It bent the lower radiator support and drove the fan into the shroud, breaking the fan blades. Luckily it did not breach the radiator and I was able to bend the lower support back mostly (within a 1/4 inch or so) into shape with a Honda scissors jack between the support and subframe.

If I can get some free time I will be pulling the H&Rs and putting it back to stock. If that happens a set of H&Rs will be going into the parts for sale section of the forum.

I have a set of H&R springs ready to install on my car. One thing to keep in mind is that you have to install the alignment correcting bolts if you lower the car to keep everything properly adjusted.

I've got H&R or Eibach's on my 190E. I can't recall which, but its pretty low.

If the W210's rear suspension is anything like the W201/W124 you'll also need adjustable rear camber arms. The factory arms do not provide enough adjustment, at least in the case of the W201, to achieve proper rear wheel camber.

Thanks all. jay_bob,, thats what i was afraid of. THat is nerve racking. Reminds me of our beetle. I put a 375.00 aluminum skid plate on that.

Let me know when you get yours off. I'd may like to give them a try. Is there anything else you can do to improve the ride and handling of the w210 (not that it needs any really) without lowering it?

Stiffer sway bars might help. I know that is a somewhat popular upgrade for the W124

Improve the ride and improve the handling are generally mutually exclusive.

Someone on eBay does offer reasonably priced poly front control arm bushings for the W210.

E55 sway bars will fit your car.

Fresh Bilstein Struts will help as well.

The PO put all that stuff on as well and went through multiple iterations of alignment to get everything back in spec.

I have all the old parts and just don't have the time or motivation to tear the suspension apart at this time to rework everything back to stock.

But if I ever do take this on I will put the bits up for sale...

Don't the H&R springs have a linear spring rate? If so, it's not a very good comparison to the Vogtland springs.
