Glow plugs in a 210, Anyone use Beru

I appear to have a glow plug failure (code P1369) which according to my cheat sheet is a cylinder 5 or 6 failure. (E 300 D) I can tell the plug is not working because of the knock when started cold. I put this set of 6 in, Mercedes brand made by Bosch, 5 years ago last November. I have records on the previous owners installation of 6 Bosch brand that were installed 4 years previous to that. It seems to me that 4 to 5 years is too short a life for a glow plug. Granted that the others might go many more years, but on this car it is such a major deal to get to the plugs that I will change them all once the intake manifold is removed. (dealer charges $530 labor) I have bought a set of Beru's to see if I can get more life. Has anyone used Beru's in a 210, and if so how well did they live?

Not in a 210 but Beru made in Ireland or Germany are probably good quality.
Problem with Bosch is the ones made in India.

I use beru in my 300D but your car probably normally eats glow plugs.
I think its a common gripe for these cars.

Haven't used Berus yet but will going forward, based on everything I've read and my experience (similar to yours) with Bosch.

In my '99 E300 I quickly went through a set of Bosch replaced them with Beru and wouldn't use anything else More info

I've used bosch, beru, NGK, AC, Motorcraft in mine, just whatever was convenient. I've had all 6 out and treated them with silver anti-sieze so they're easy to take out and replace.

I'm not worried about doing all 6 at once. All the brands I've used have lasted a reasonable amount of time.

It came with Beru plugs when it left the factory.

The PO of my 99 changed all the plugs at 70k miles in late 2007 with Beru....still going strong at 164k miles.

Most of the Beru experience is on the older models.

On them Beru is the best available Glow Plugs. But, eve on the older Models the Berus are more expensive and there is less sellers.

Things not happening right inside of the Precombustion Chamber shorten the life fo Glow Plugs. Worn out Injector Nozzles are one of the causes also Carbon Build up.

Although someone recently pulled their plugs on a new Engine and said they were pretty clean. It is likely that the Computer Controld Fuel Injection does not carbon up like the non-computer ones do.

But there is Glow Plug Reamers for all of them to clean out the holes.

I think Beru have a good name and may be even OEM on some cars. I try to opt for Bosch Chromium Duraterm if available.

I have heard somewhere that Beru has a special grease to be used on their glow plugs, but I have not seen it for sale. Anyone know about it?
