my 190D stalls... difficult to keep running in morning

Ok... that began happening...

The car glows ok , then it starts, but it's rough... not rough like a cylinder isn't getting fuel or firing, just rough like it's overloaded and idling too slow.

Later the weather gets milder and i shut off the blower... the motor now is smooth...

Starts easy and idles fine. If I turn on the blower, the engine will stall... wtf? Blower is smooth and strong. Lights don't dim or anything. .. I'm thinking the compressor must be coming in... but I'm using the vent position.

I've not had a helper to test the theory but today I will.

Any thoughts? Oh... I removed my clutch fan and installed a pusher on a thermostat.

Go.

Can you verify that your compressor is engaging when it shouldn't? Or does it stall that easily that you can't get up under the hood? Will it stay running if you rev it up during this?

Does the 190d have ELR or something similar for idle control? On most OM603s I've seen the ELR is no longer functioning and you have to adjust the idle screw on the IP to keep the idle up instead. Also check the voltage with a multi meter when you start the car, idle and stall. Even tho your lights don't dim you might be surprised how low the output gets.

My 87 has ELR. The idle stumbles if it's not connected.

My ELR is currently out of the socket and my car is idling too low to be smooth. Installed it idled well.

It just doesn't like getting up in the morning. Can't blame it. Try pouring some coffee and eggs into the fuel tank and see if that helps.
