Dismantling doors.

I spent the day stripping 4 W123 doors. These were doors off an early 300D, I think. I have had them stored in garage for years as potential spares, but decided it was time for them to go. Exterior was good, but inside seal channel at bottom was rusted on 3 of 4.

I learned a lot about how they were put together by pulling all the parts off! Always impressed with MB engineering.

Ended up with 2 boxes of parts and trim. Includes 2 motors and 3 lift mechanisms. Two rear windows still had bottom metal channel intact so kept those plus two small fixed rear door panes. Plus lots of metric screws, various clips and usual door hardware.

Good part is - more space in garage!

Graham, there may be a difference between the early w123`s and the later W123`s door glass and maybe the Regulators.

My buddy has a 79 240D, he was in San Francisco a few months ago, and someone broke into his car breaking the rear door glass.

He asked me about the glass, and I told him to go to PNP and get one out of a wreck. They should all be the same.

He did some searching first, and some how found out the early glass is thicker up to about maybe Sept 79. (not sure on exact date) then after that date, MB went to a thinner glass, and maybe the Regulator and the rubber/felt the glass runs up and down in.

He called Roy, and he confirmed it also as I remember.
My buddy may have gone to the parts counter at the Dealer also for info.

Just a heads up.

MB probably went to the thinner glass as part of the weight savings etc...
