Alternative exhaust manifolds?

Hi all,

I am thinking about changing my exhaust manifold at some point in the future as I know the stock turbo om606 manifold isn't the best for flow owing to how compact it is.

I have seem a few photos of people bolting on two 3 cylinder manifold, eg off a V6 and running them inline. I was thinking about perhaps looking at getting something like that and then modify them to connect together to then bolt a turbo on.

It would mean that it could be cheaper than getting a custom manifold made up as I could just use 2 stock manifolds and join them to get the same effect.

Just wondering which engine I should look at with the same stud spacing as the OM606, just in a V6 configuration.

I'm considering mounting a couple NA OM606 manifolds onto my engine and fabbing up a collector that routes into the larger turbo. The NA engine's manifolds look like two right sides of a V6 bolted onto one side of the inline engine.

The NA manifolds look to be of a better free flowing design than the turbo.

Yeah I noticed that the OM606 NA version had a 2 manifold setup, not sure what material they are made from, however I could create a manifold by using the stock exhaust attachements to collect the gasses together and mound a turbo inbetween.

I did also see the other adaptors that I could use which involve simply bolting an adapter to where the stock manifold would go into the turbo and then its like an upwards cone into a T3/T4 flange. Although the stock manifold isn't the best for flow, for a simple setup without needing to take the stock manifold off it might be an option.

I have found an aftermarket tubular manifold which is around £675ish so the options are:

Turbo flange adaptor - £150
NA manifolds + additional pipework - £?
Tubular manifold - £675

I will see if I can get a set of good condition NA manifolds, they aren't common in the UK as we only really got the turbodiesel.
