84 300CD different hood latch

I have an 84 300CD with 65k and I am trying to get it as my daily driver. Things are going well and I am attending to smaller things. A piece of wire was opening the hood from the front from the PO. I order a new latch but when I began trying to replace it I realized the hood latch on the interior of the hood is different. The main vertical latch is actually horizontal...a totally different latch system that I have seen on my other 300s and the latch will not work

Has anyone heard or seen anything like this?

I will try to get pictures this afternoon.

Thanks, Don

Here are a couple of photos. The first one is the frame latch and the other two are the hood latch. The photos are not that great but I hope someone can help.

Thanks again, Don

That horizontal piece is suppose to be vertical. Looks like it is bent over.
It is suppose to catch under the black plastic piece to the left (in pic).
So when you pull the Hood cable, the Hood pops up and the grey plastic tongue pops out through the gill.

The horizontal piece is you back up latch to keep the Hood from flying back into the windshield if the lock assy. pops loose.

Charmalu...you are correct. I have carefully straightened it so as not to break the cast and fixed it correctly. Now the question arises for me: WHY would anyone do such a dumb thing?!

Thanks again, Don
