Is it possible to R&R the IP without removing the oil filter stand? I've only been able to adjust timing.

Yes, but you might learn some new cuss words in the process. It is hard enough to remove and replace the bolt, let alone the entire bracket. The bracket has to be removed in order to pull the pump. I have not tried to leave the bracket on the pump with just the two bolts removed that hold the bracket to the block. I am pretty sure the pump cannot be removed without the bracket completely out of the way. It is a bit of a job, but the VCV and shutoff can be removed for better access to the bolt if the stand is not removed. Needless to say, with the stand removed, it is a "piece of cake"....Rich

I didn't notice it at first, but after you mentioned it, it definitely looks like a crack.

It looks like a casting line from a crack in the mold. Look it over close up, it is raised, not cracked.

Is this lined up properly? And to get the balancer on the flywheel lined up to 15° After top dead center what exactly will the indicating arrow be pointing at? I'm going to check on that crack.

That direction it looks like a casting mark.

You know we really need an automatic picture resizing program on this forum...like on benzworld...not many of us are old school enough to still have a picture program resizer and editor on us....specially if someone is posting via smart phone/tablet...

Also to lock the ip a normal lug bolt will work....done it at least 5 times with one....the main thing is to make a drip tube from an old ip line so it can be timed accordingly..

Okay, ive almost got enough info to start to write this guide. I need to know what number the arrow behind the fly wheel points to and the best way to line that up. Can I get close using the starter and then what? Grab the nut on the fly wheel with a breaker bar to get it perfect?

Pull everything out of the way including the oil filter housing. Line up my IP as in photo above(locked in with timing locking pin)

I'll put a list of all the tools needed, like swivel head 13mm with extension for the mounting/adjusting bolts.

This is starting to seem doable!

I'll get some solvent today (methanol and gasoline?) And start cleaning up the IP.

Ah, and I'll have to source the gaskets.

Thanks guys!
