Strange vacuum pump

Mercedes Unterdruckpumpe FÜR OM617 300 Turbo Diesel Original Neu MB Pierburg | eBay

So looks like it's a double pump which is quite interesting.

But then have a look at how the pump is driven....quite odd....

What do you make of it...

More information (regarding the configuration of this pump with the booster) given here =>

And schematics of the pump given here =>

http://www.startekinfo.com/StarTek/outside/12265/disc_2/program/Chassis/43-615.pdf

They were fitted to longer wheel base W123s and the W116 chassis 300SD (I think)

Thankyou! Mystery solved.

Always finding out quirks of these vehicles.

I'm not a fan of reciprocating vacuum pumps in general, but these would fix the ball bearing issues the other pumps have. But may have more complicated internals to go wrong.

I'm still looking into getting rid of the vacuum system completely.

Looks like one would need to replace the double-cam on the injection timer with a drive-plate. Is this part even availible separately, for a price mere mortals can afford? Never seen a stretch W123 in the Pick-N-Pull.
I pulled a belt-driven vacuum pump off an '83 Oldsmobile V8 several years ago to experiment with. Was thinking about fabricating a mount to replace the existing vacuum pump and hanging the Olds pump there, to be driven off the power-steering belt.
But before starting this retro-fit project, fate intervened and I wound up with a new OE pump for my '84 Euro TD and a replacement lever-bearing assy for my '82 240D.
Besides, today new '80s GM vacuum pumps might be as hard to find and/or as expensive as a Mercedes double-pump & drive-plate.

Happy Motoring, Mark

I seem to remember that the rebuild kits for these w116 style pumps aren't available, or were extremely expensive...
