UGH... I bought a gasser...

it's german, but NOT MB...

the girlfriend/babymamma wanted ac, and I'm tired of working on a rustbucket car... so shopping found me an 01 Passat wagon 3.0Lv6... fully optioned, 4motion etc...

I like the feel of the car, very solid and smooth. soooooo many gadgets, but I like them. hate the 20mpg... on premium... but it's not my fuel money.

silver with black leather interior heated seats, blah blah...

it's got full curtain airbags, and cupholders... radio operated from the steering wheel... meh.

she likes it.
I'm fine.

anybody want a rode hard and put away wet 87 190D 2.5 turbo?

I ' suppose' your significant other's wishes are more important than your '' old rust bucket principles " ...... LOL

John - Why not TDI!!?? Hoping to get ME into one when Nellie the HHR reaches the end of her road.

I 'spose sometimes you get what's available.

Rare car, they didn't make a 3.0 B5.5 Passat.

I had a B5 Passat 2.8, it was a nice car, but that 2.8 was a huge pain to fix, and as you've noticed, not great on fuel. Rode and drove nice though, and any AWD Wagon has a place in my life.

A very nice car. Cool/expensive thing about the Passats is that they don't handle like a bigger car, all due to the way the front suspension behaves. It works elegantly, until the balljoints fail, then it is very expensive. Each BJ is permanently installed in its' aluminum arm, which means it is very expensive when they fail. But since you are used to Benz's, you should be good. :-)

That V6 is a hog, but it doesn't suffer from the leaky 'crack-pipe' the VR6 does, so that is a small win.

vstech 05-19-2015 10:11 AM

it was dirt cheap... half what other similar passats were going for...

I looked for a TDI, but couldn't find one near my price range... and this one just stole my heart.

I LOVE driving it. I'm sure I'll hate fixing it. hopefully, the little woman wont wear it out quickly... she doesn't drive much. that may change now that she's got a bigger car with a/c but who knows...

Yes I am.

Your motor may say "30V" on it, but its 5 valves per cylinder. The motor only displaces 2.8L

Yes, need to ease back on that moonshine mouthwash....

vstech 05-19-2015 10:52 AM

ahh.

ok, so it's a 2.8L v6. 30 valves... ok.

vstech 05-19-2015 11:20 AM

I'm a Chevy and Mercedes guy... honest mistake I hope.

DieselPaul 05-19-2015 11:42 AM

I figured it may help you when you're looking for parts and can never find "fits 3.0L V6" when you're searching around.

Most people assume the 30V on the motor means 3.0, and I don't think VW ever put 2.8L badges on them so I don't think it says 2.8 anywhere on the car, so its an entirely honest mistake.

Ha!

Nope, not for sale... just an offhand comment. Let's stay focused on the passat...

I really like how VW's handle, great steering and brakes.
