Coil Spring Point System in EPC

I'm sure my parts guy will be able to figure this out, but I am kinda curious....

So I need to order new coil springs for my 98 E300 (both are broken toward bottom). In the EPC, there's a point system. So since mine is a 210.025, I start with 79 points. And then I add points for various options....and I wind up with 88 points which means I buy 2103213004.

But why are points added for stuff like telephone or sound system? How could that possibly affect which spring to choose?

I guess...but how much can those sorts of things contribute to the overall weight? Interestingly, three points get added for a sliding roof.

12 points for obese American, 50 points for obese American family?

It`s not only the 210 chassis that uses different springs for the various options that are added.
All the models are like that. Every option adds weight.

Give your dealer the Vin #, and you will get the correct Spring/s., that is if everything is as it came from Germany.
Start swapping parts, and all bets are off.

One MB parts dept. rep I spoke to said that, even with the VIN, you can't be perfectly sure. He said there are colored markings on the original springs that confirm which spring is needed to replace it. That being said, I'm 99% sure I know what I need.
