A big Thank You to everyone who's helped me here....

Long story short is this; As of today I am out of the old Mercedes business. I just sold both of my 87 300Td's today to a pair of friends from Columbus. Though the cars will stay with me till the end of June (when they fly back to pick them up) - I won't be spending all my free time working on them anymore. I've also sold off my 97 Ford F-350 Diesel (340k miles).

Throughout my time with these cars I've gotten a TON of help from many of you here, for which I am thankful.

Warm wishes to all

Jeromie

Sad to see you go, but you have your reason and life must move on.

What are you replacing the MB`s with? having the Ford Diesel, were you on the
Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums ? That`s a pretty good one and has helped me.
Are you replacing the truck?

I wish you the best, take care. Hope to see you come back with a new MB.

Yup, I replaced my MB wagons with a new 2014 VW Sportwagen TDi. We were spending on average $1000 per month on car parts keeping all of our daily drivers running. That's twice what a new car payment would be. So it came down to money and time, now I can spend more time working on my other projects

At least you stayed diesel.

Let us know what you think about the TDI. I have several MB's and I can't imagine how you could have been spending $1000/month on them in PARTS! At some point you HAVE to have replaced everything on the car!

You'd think ! The $1K per month also included work that we sometimes had to farm out - new tires - not just parts.

So far I really, really like my TDi. The guys who came to buy my wagons actually showed up in a 2011 Jetta Sportwagen TDi - how cool is that?

There is NO such thing as a cheap Mercedes. My experience from members when they bought their first MBZ is

Euphoria - can't wait to put it 'right' and 'enjoy' it.
Frustration - Nothing goes right, Hard shoulder car, AAA Tow membership, breakdown constantly. Nothing but a garage junk.
In denial - It can be salvaged. dump more money and time. replace all suspected parts while 'I am in there'.
Despair - Running out of time, money, motivation.
Junk or sell - Cut my losses and run? Let other MBZ enthusiasts take over.
Peace of mind - Car gone to a good home.
Itchy feet - do it all over again ??

Enjoy that new VW Wagen. I'll always remember selling my first 300D, then the 79 SD, the 300Cd's and even the gasser 190E 5 speed. I felt like I sold my children.

My 2 c. Keep those guys phone #'s for a few years down the road.

Maybe I should write a book - "How to turn a $750 car into a $1500 car while only spending $4500 in the process!" ;-)

LOL hell if you started a club for those of us in the MB world who've done that, you'd have to rent a stadium for the first meeting.

The wife and mom of a friend have one each. They really like them, though they find that the one with DSG is more fun to drive than the one with the manual box.
