W210 Cruise Control
I installed a 603 IP in my 1996 N/A 606.
Everything about it is good except I lost my cruise control. I am wondering if anyone knows enough about the drive-by-wire system, and the cruise control system, in the W210 to let me know if there is a signal produced by the W210's system that can be captured and used to control a 603's electro-mechanical cruise control unit ?

Pretty sure the system needs electrical control over the fuel pump - its one of the reasons I might not fit an OM603 pump to my OM606 engine as you lose some functionality.
Did you think the cruise control would work after you disconnected the ECU control from the fueling??

There are 2, 4 wire, electrical harnesses that go to the IP.
One goes to the replaceable fuel control valve. One goes to the back of the IP. I think that the electro-mechanical cruise control unit uses 4 wires. I was wondering if either of the 4 wire sets send a signal that could be used for the cruise unit when the cruise control is activated in the car.

The 2 devices on the 606 DBW IP are a sensor (rack position feedback) and an actuator (that moves the rack).
The ECU drives the rack actuator and uses the position sensor for feedback. The actuator signals are just a "drive the rack more" or "drive the rack less" type of thing. Drive by wire cruise is just an extended function of the ECU. Instead of the ECU trying to modulate the fueling level given the pedal input, it modulates the fuel level to maintain a preset road speed. You'll notice in a properly functioning 210 that the pedal does not move in response to the cruise control calling for more fuel. Not like it does on a car where the pedal mechanism is actuated by the cruise control. This also means that the cruise control on a 210 is rock solid. There is no mechanical slop from the external actuator or linkage like in a 123/124. This all happens within the ECU and there is nothing that can be gleaned from the signals to the IP that will help you with external cruise control operation. I think your best bet would be to send your 606 pump out for a rebuild and put it back to stock if you want your cruise to work.

Thank you for the answer to my question.
Cruise control is not worth the cost of rebuilding the IP. If I really want CC, I will just have to add the complete system. That would be more trouble than it's worth on a car that I am trying to use up before it rusts out. It is almost used up. It owes me nothing.
