OM606 Belt Spring
Well mine broke...sheesh. Wondering if anyone knows of a suitable (bmw, audi toyota) substitute in case MB dealer does not have it tomorrow.
I was surprised I made it home with it squealing, knocking and clattering like it did. 17 miles...yikes.

I've never bothered to stock a spare, figuring that something as simple as a spring would never break. Perhaps I should think again.

Apparently they break regularly.

Wow! I have seen a few broken, but I didn't think it was very common. Perhaps stress is starting to get to them.

My 95 E300D broke a spring on me also, I welded it back together temporarily, continued driving it for a few days until I got one delivered from pelican or somewhere online.
One thing to be aware of is belt vibration, I had a lot, figured it might have fatigued the spring, Installed a overrunning alternator pulley and have none now. If you need a pulley I've got a spare as well as the splined tool to install it... Would probably make you a good deal on a whole car too lol.

the overrunning clutch pulley is really a good mod on these cars, otherwise the spring, tensioner arm and stabilising shock take a solid brutal beating anytime the engine is idling.

Is this what it is? If so it looks like a fairly straight forward bolt on mod.

Compu85 did an OM606 alternator pulley retrofit with a new tensioner shock and was nice enough to film his result. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=fB_r4odE9hI I would like to do this in the future, as not only does it give less wear and stress on the alternator and tensioner, it gives a better idle without the best fluttering all over.

Ok what part number fits the 606 alternators? Are they all bosch/similar? I can look on INA application guide I guess but the car is not local to me yet. Thanks.

Hey guess what?! I posted that video link for a reason. If you had clicked on it, you'd see another video link in the description that says to watch it first. Click on that and look in the description for that video. What do you know??!!! The part number you're looking for!!! I already typed out all of that explanation, I think you can find the number on your own.

A6041500360....weren't installed that way at factory?
Didn't these cars with OM606 come with this pulley installed from factory since they used a larger alternator?

I wanted him to find it himself instead of asking someone else to do it.

The pulley I used is Gates 37011P, it fit the pulley on my 95 e300d perfectly, lined up correctly and has minimal/zero belt vibration after the fact.
I have a video somewhere also. The tool to install it is Gates Tools and Manuals - H22X33T (91024-1) (91024-1) Both are available on Amazon, you can get both for around $100 bucks total. Very worth it in my opinion, if nothing else its sure fun to play with the pulley. Hadn't ever seen a one way clutched pulley before I got it, and nobody I've showed it to have seen one either.
