Checklist to check window regulator failure
 

Hi all,

I am just working through all of the small issues on my W210, one of them is an issue with the windows. The rear windows seem to work fine, its just the front windows that have an issue.

Where is the fuse located for the windows - I have a feeling it might be a loose/blown fuse as I found that this was the case with the central locking as well. I have so far found 3 fuse boxes in the car, one in the engine bay, one in the side of the dash under a cover and then there is the one under the rear seats.

If there isn't an issue with the fuse/contacts, what should I look to do as a check list of other things before I start taking door cards off etc. I know that the front windows have worked however they aren't now.

I have also found that for the rear windows, if you press the button all the way down it does nothing, however if you half press the button it does work. My guess is on a fuse for the window control system - or are the windows Pneumatic like the central locking?

The windows regulators are electronic and controlled by the ?!~£$% CAN bus. I think you have a faulty door control module. Try disconnect the battery for ~5min. This could be a temporary fix.

When I had the issue with the central locking I found that the fuse seems to be slightly lose in the fuse box. I also noticed that some of the fuses relate to just the front or just the back of the car so it might be a combo of the front fuse and maybe a failing control module (hence the half press issue).

The battery has recently been replaced so I am thinking that this would have reset the module - might just be something like a bad earth somewhere.

Ok the clue you provided about pressing half way down on the rear window buttons and the battery replacement indicate you require a resync. Try your sun roof you should have similar issues. As for the fuse location I'm not certain. Just wondering who replaced the battery as generally an external source of power is typically applied before disconnecting the battery otherwise you will have to go through a resync process as outlined in the operators manual.

Thanks for that, I havn't had the car long so I am just going through the process of getting everything serviced and checked as well as sorting out all of the little annoying issues.

The sunroof seems to have been basically waterproofed by the previous owner using some sort of silicone - guessing its common for it to leak. Not too worried about the sunroof but just want to get the windows working properly - I don't have the owners manual however I am sure it is online somewhere.

Do one window at a time lower the window and hold the button down for an additional 4 seconds then raise window and keep window button depressed for an additional 4 seconds. That window should be good than.
