Awesome photos!
64 cars started the race. 19 cars finished. One MB 220d finished 17th. And one MB 220d finished 18th. The only car which finished the race at a slower pace than the MBs was a Elan Racing Team Daf 44 (a 34 hp, 2 cylinder engined car). That's funny!!!!!
Pull the bumpers and fuel door off a '69 220D, add 4-Lucas beams, and put on a crash helmet, and BOOM it's a race car?! HA - HA! We had one of these new in 1969 too! :D |
Wow it is pretty impressive that any car finished
Quote:
All of the cars that finished had been running and moving round a 28 kilometer track for 84 hours. |
Oh I don't know, a 220d probably did it with no sweat. Driving one flat out is the normal way to drive one.;)

2 liter diesels are awesome. :D
I use 100% throttle a large part of the time in my 190d 2.2......270k+ on the engine and still going strong. On the freeway if I put my foot about 90% it will stay around 75-77mph :D Its been up to 97mph before....the absolute most I could get out of it. (took a LONG time) |
Looking closer at the link from Shortsguy1, it looks like there was a 3rd 220D that did not finish and none of them were backed by Mercedes.
I guess if I ever decide to sell my 220D I can claim: "You know, they used to race these against 911's at the Nürburgring..." |
