Which length gearbox dipstick?

Hi all,

Just looking to get a gearbox dipstick owing to the fact that they aren't a standard item. I have had a look at it seems there are 2 lengths - 92cm and 122cm.

For my W210 E300 turbodiesel do I need the 92cm version?

Thanks in advance!

Is it a 722.608?

(e.g. try searching for transmission type and dipstick on ye olde internet)

I will have to check, when checking on the bay of E it seems that I need the 92cm although I have also read that it doesn't actually matter as it just needs to hit the bottom of the dipstick tube.

Most dip sticks don't work like that - I'd be wary of that kind of advice

There is this 722.6 DIY fluid change entry on the peachparts wiki that might help =>

It has been my experience with the dipstick that I bought from the bay, that it is universal, and longer than needed because of the fact that you mentioned. It does in fact bottom out, and the level is read. The extra length is for use on tubes longer in length, but still work the same. I have also found that there is no need to buy the replacement red keeper. Just insert the remaining part of the broken red plastic keeper in the slot, and it will keep the cap on. Just push it through with a small screwdriver to remove the cap.

Thanks for the confirmation, when I got the car I checked the gearbox dipstick cap with the red locking keeper, it seemed to just pop off so I just snapped it back on again.
