w116 Odometer-N.Hollywood Speedometers

Own a 1979 300sd (w116) and need to get my Odometer repaired.

I walked into North Hollywood Speedometers and asked for a quote to repair my Odometer. The employee gave me a quote of $190.00.

I was shocked to hear the price. I asked why it was so high and explained to him that I had previously paid under 100 dollars a few years back to get the same repair for my other 79 300sd. The employee explained to me that they were under new ownership as of 6 months ago.

I asked to speak to someone else to get a justification on why the high charge.
A second person walked up to the counter and explained to me that the Cluster would be taken apart and they would check everything.

I asked if calibration of the speedometer was included and he said that it was.

I asked to explain exactly what he was going to do and he walked me over to a small calibration machine which he attached to my speedometer.

He continued to explain that a reading of 60 mph on my speedometer should equal to a digital number of 1500 on his machine.

I told him that I would try to motivate myself to bring it back to him but I was going to hold off for now.

I want to now hold off on the repair and research the company.
I do not know how much experience the repair shop has and also do not know if they have any employees that worked for the previous owner.

Hoping that someone here has experience with NH Speedometers under the new ownership and can shed light on their work.

NH Speedometers had a history of excellent service and repairs.
