What is this clip for? 95E300d

Tonight I removed the sagging headliner from my 95 and found this clip. Is it for the headliner or the trim that goes around the door? It is perfectly clean with no corrosion or dirt which makes me think it was tucked neatly somewhere behind the headliner or the c-pillar. Thanks.

I have found these on the edges of the B pillar lining, it kind of holds the center part of the B pillar finisher trim tight to the body.

Z is correct. Here's a picture of the B-pillar in my '95 E300D, driver's door. These clips often get knocked off and lost. I'm not sure when the factory started using them; my '87 300D Turbo had none (but it was abused as a child). How yours ended up in the overhead is another matter . . .
Good luck with the headliner. It's a tricky R&R. Jeremy |
Thanks guys. The diy thread here for w124 headliner removal was pretty helpful. However, after I couldn't get the sunroof liner off, I just started removing stuff from the front to the back, visors, mirror, oh-**** handles, sunroof parts, b pillar trim, c pillar trim. The hardest part was removing the stupid rear overhead light. the headliner was falling in the way and I couldn't see to figure it out and it was all dirty and sticky. Got it out through the sunroof undamaged. Taking it to a shop to be recovered. PITA job, but not the worst I have done on my 124 or the 123.

Awesome, what will the shop charge you to re-cover the liner?

Mine was recovered a couple years ago for $60 but I did all the work of getting the old sticky stuff off and the recover material was a generic, not MB or Alcantra. Still a very close match to the original and holding up very well.
