Will 126 windo regultor come out in up position

My 84SD passenger window quit working. I have full battery voltage at the terminals on the door going to the motor. I'm going to swap either a motor or entire regulator from the parts car.

FSM says to roll the window down to remove the regulator. Does anyone know off hand whether the motor can be swapped or the regulator can be removed with the window up?

I'm going to have breakfast then go out into the heat to wrench.

I got it out. The parts car motor is bad also. The motors are side specific. Different years 85 to 84 have different drive gears connecting between the part that drives the regulator and motor. I tried swapping motors but it looks like a trip to the yard for an entire unit.

And 1 final comment. The regulators are specific side to side and front to back. Pre 1985 regulators are stronger than 85 & later. The motor bolts to a gear sub-assembly then the entire thing bolts to the regulator.

The gear is side specific. The motor has different terminals between the front & rear motor. You can swap motors between regulators IF the gear sub-assembly is from the same side AND the gear sub-assembly is from the same set of years ie pre or post 1985.

The motors look like they will swap but I think the worm gear is slightly different between 1084 & 1985. Te drive gear is larger on 1984 and earlier gear assemblies.

Things to test before buying:

1. motor works forward & reverse
2. Teeth on the regulator arm aren't stripped.
3. All bushings are intact and bolts aren't buggered.

Im almost done. This took waaaay too much time with all of the messing around trying to come up with a combination that works. I'll grab a couple of extras if at the yard and they're cheap.

Junk man i took pictures on the removel of my regulator .You will have to use the power to get the bolts to line up sp keep hand out of the openings in the door .Also dot forget to refit the plastic membraine to the door or you will get water inside the footwell.

My motor was shot so it wouldn't roll down. I was able to get to the bolt holding the regulator to the window then slide the plastic piece out. Once disconnected, the regulator come out.

Installing was a pita and I still need to find another regulator because the teeth are worn on the one in the yard.
