An older friend of mine now deceased had one when it was new. I think he did not keep it long and still got about 6k out of it.
The first one I saw was sitting used at a Mercedes dealer in Toronto. It was the convertible and was fifty thousand asking. Now remember in those days a ratty but running well 356 porche was 300.00 and a not too bad jag 140 convertible as they go was 600.00. The neighbors son across the street and a friend of his started up sports cars unlimited in the Toronto area. With five thousand dollars loaned from their fathers in those days. They handled used sports cars on consignment and got very rich over the years. As a result I saw about every type of sports car he brought home from their dealership until he moved out of home. Eventually he purchased normal car dealerships as well. Actually after awhile he became fairly active and famous on the local sports car racing circuits as well. He also became a pretty good formula one driver for awhile. Bill Brack was his name. |

I have never been able to understand why anyone would want a sports car with a hard top on it. Being closed in seems to defeat much of the purpose and the joy of driving a great car. It seems there are two types of people: agoraphobics and claustrophobics. I tend strongly towards being the latter.
Of course driving is just not the fun it was when I was a teenager and in my twenties. Back in the 1950's and the early 1960's in Virginia there were not many cars on the road, especially at night, and almost no cops. We used to hold races out on the deserted highways. Imagine doing that now. Richard |
