1997 E290 diesel leak

So I just picked up a 1997 E290 diesel (German import, pictures and a thread on it to follow once I wash it). However first things off it has a hard time starting in the morning, I can smell diesel, and the PO said he could see bubbles in the hard lines. So I'm going to assume that the O-Rings are shot and in need of replacement.

Now the fun part, since the OM602 2.9L wasn't sold in anything in NA, as far as I know anyways, I can't look up what size the o-rings are, and since I'm in Canada, I can't access the EPC.

Does anyone know the size of the O-Rings and how many I will need? I was thinking it might be similar to the OM606 setup, but not sure.

The question is do you just want to order all of the possible O-rings or fix the leak?

If you want to fix the leak you need to locate where it is leaking from.

I am not sure what equipment yours has as I don't own one some of the 60*s have a Fuel Heater and some have a manual shutoff that can leak fuel.

I fogot to mention to check the Glow Plug System.

You or someone will need to post wich US version is the close; for parts try here:

I think I'd be inclined to order all of them before I begin. Once I'm in there I may as well do all of them and know that I have everything I need.

And as far as glow plugs goes, the same question applies. Does the 2.9l direct injection version of the 602 that I have use the same glow plugs as all the others?

Glowplugs should be the same as the 606 engines i would think

I don't think so. The 606 uses the extra long plugs that go between the cam shafts through the valve cover. The ones on my engine are in the standard location on the side of the head.

Either way, I don't think its glowplugs anymore. It was 30*C when I left work, and the engine temp gauge on the car showed it was above 40*C when I turned the key on. It still took 5-6 cycles of the starter before it caught. A DI engine should barely need glowplugs if at all at these temps. I'm thinking that I hav a leak causing the plump to loose its prime.... I can't think of anything else.... Just wish I knew the O-ring sizes.

Sadly not (as far as I know anyways). I believe tt uses your credit card info to verify where you are. I have a Canadian card, so I can't make an account...

Besides, the Free version only has NA models in it. Mines a German import.

the 606 glow plugs go in from the side of the head, not the valve cover. The injectors of the 606 go through the valve cover.

My bad, either way I found the part number for the om602.982 and its not the same as the 606 far as I can tell
