Wildlife

Right on the side of the road there was a family of mountain goats grazing on the nice grass along the road. They were completely unfazed by the traffic or the people taking pictures.

Down the road a little further was an elk eating right on the edge of the road.

Also came across a group of elk relaxing on the side of the road.

And a bit further along, this group of sheep grazing on the road grass.

And what day in the mountains would be complete without some car pics - this is a car forum after all...

Nice pics Paul. You'll need to come to France. Quite a lot of those critter bridges there.

Bette sends her regards.

Keep 'em coming.

Thanks for the pictures! Great wild country there! Glad your benz is working so well!

I seem to remember predicting you would get mid thirties for Mpg in it back when you were in the build.

Here's a quick unedited dashcam video (my travel laptop isn't capable of doing video edits, so no music, no transitions, just a raw 3 minute segment direct from the camera)

Beautiful pictures! Looks like a fun, relaxing trip.

When you get back, would you please start a thread on your dash cam? Which one you have, how you like it, etc.

Thanks for sharing and letting us vicariously tour the Canadian Rockies.

This must be about your half way point now, 2250 miles? Are the forest fires reducing the air quality much? I hope you stay up late one evening after sunset at least till around 11:30 and look for the aurora borealis!

I think it's actually a little past the half way mark. We've been unaffected by the forest fires - no smoke and smell. I think they're around, we've just been incredible lucky. Will do on the Aurora...

Hinton to Kamloops

Left Hinton pretty early this morning after dining on breakfast at Tim Horton's with Nobby and Mrelbe. One last pass through Jasper Park on the way to Kamloops. They checked our passes at the gate. It was really fun cruising with fellow forum friends.

Some final park scenes before we headed out on the open road.

The scenery is still breathtaking.

And we were also treated to some up close and personal wildlife.

The elk just walked around like they owned the place, and I guess in a quaint sort of way, they do.

The car performed well again today with no issues. It was a short leg so will need to wait until tomorrow to post mileage figures.

Even outside the parks the scenery is spectacular.

We stopped at the border of British Columbia to get the obligatory sign picture and reset our watches.

A pit stop at the Mt Robson visitor center provided the information that Mt Robson is the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies and by extension, Canada as well.

It was truly amazing.

Of course the trip was not without it's issues. Mrelbe blew a heater hose and required an emergency repair in the parking lot of Canadian Tire. All's well that ends well and no one was stranded or delayed. Nobby did a great job with a "farm repair" using available parts and tools.

When you depart Kamloops heading west and approach the end of the first climb you have a choice to leave the trans Canada highway by bearing left and go through Hell. It will add about an hour and a half to your trip but well worth it in my opinion. Just obey the posted speed limits only a few feet between the road edge and very deep cliffs the guard rails are old. Have fun Mach4!

Dang, I missed it. I heard about that route and was planning on taking it but I thought it was out of Hope and never saw it...in retrospect, obviously.

I'll be back for sure. Still too much to see and not enough time.

Look up when you pass Chillaswack should be lots of gliders all the wind currents before the mountains support them.
