300SD Factory manual trans?

I picked up an 82' 300 SD rust free roller back in 09' with the intent on pulling the drive line from my 84' when the body got bad.
Fast forward to now, 84' is gone and 82' is on it's way to the crusher.
I was pulling some parts, (for what?) shifter, and peddle assy., and some this and thats.
When i picked this car up it had a manual set up. I had figured someone had did a conversion. The shifter fit the hole like it was from the factory with proper gasket. the peddle assy. looked correct to.

So my question is did they ever factory build a manual? What about a grey market?

I have seen a few 280SE gray market cars on the interwebz. I would imagine a later 300SD with a 5 speed manual would be a pretty sweet car.

There was never a factory built OM617a (turbo) fitted to a W115/6 W123 or a W126 with a 5 speed manual gearbox. They did, however fit both four and five speed manual gearboxes to the non turbo OM617.

Some W124 and second generation W126 vehicles were fitted with OM60X engines and five speed manual gearboxes over here

Only grey market cars have the manual tranny from the factory. All of them gassers too. :-)
I have the 5 speed manual tranny on my 250d & 300d W124's

There this one on CL a 82 280SE with a 4-spd.

1982 Mercedes Benz 280 Euro Sedan. Rare 4speed Manual.

1982 Mercedes-Benz 280s w126 Sedan. European market car with rare 4speed manual transmission. This is a gas engine, not diesel. Car runs and drives. Has factory A/C which is still working. Solid and straight body with no rust issues, imported to California when new and has been here since. Interior is good. Has grey MB tex vinyl seats. Needs work, but a good car overall. Purchased this car from a storage auction years ago and never got the proper paperwork from them. Sold as-is with bill of sale only.

First person with $1500 cash takes it home

So the auto shifter and manual have the same stamped out hole in floor, and the auto and manual share the same mounting for the pedals.
I guess for production that makes sense. I thought i had a hens tooth and was rethinking scrapping it.

Same one I posted in post# 6.

Too many red flags on it, no wonder it doesn`t sell. and priced too high for what it is.

Does the manual tranny from the gasser W126 mate up to the 0M617? If so, are there any issues wi the flywheel, input shaft, flex discs, etc?

If its a M110 powered car then yes it will. I'm not sure on the flywheel but that issue has been covered and debated plenty of times. Search on using a 240D flywheel on a 300D. You will need custom work on the driveshaft if you can't find one from a manual 300SD.

You could get a 5 speed in a W124 300E in both 86 and 88. There was a very small number that were ordered as such and then it was dropped. I have a 5 speed manual from an 86 in my 91 300TE.
