'85 300D What is this thin black vacuum line supposed to connect to?
See the attachment below. This thin black vacuum line is just hanging around under the dash. There's nothing obvious for it to connect to. I'm hoping it has something to do with my AC vents not working right and that someone here knows where it goes.

Its a vent line. It's not supposed to attach to anything. The engineers that designed these cars ran it inside as it was an easy source of relatively clean air.

Oh! So I should probably reconnect it back in the engine and not plug up where it was connected

Yes you should, lol. Your transmission will thank you as, if memory serves, its a vent for the VCV vacuum system which controls the firmness of your shifts.

If it's like mine there is a "vent filter" connected to it and that goes into the vehicle interior. Mine was hanging free in the engine area, when I connected to the interior I can hear a "venting" "buzzing" sound depending on the engine. It's kind of annoying. That's if were talking about the same line.

Does this help? Look at item 85.

Hmm. That's weird. The other end of mine is connected to something in the engine. See attached picture.
Also (ignore the golf tee. My lock system vacuum problem was preventing a proper shut off so I isolated it) Sent from my XT1060 using Tapatalk |
