I think you are right. When I was doing testing on my RIV timing light, I found it takes a long time to fill the IP sump. I had RIV port plug removed and engine idling for 10 minutes and oil did not flow out of the RIV port. I then disconnected the oil line, put it into a quart container and started the engine and it half filled the container in about 30 seconds. I ended up filling the sump manually then put the oil line back, never found out how long it takes for the sump to fill till it overflows the RIV port.

One of these little fellas will most likely be used... if I don't sell them first.

I do mean little...

We are running some numbers to make sure it wont choke up top which I have a feeling it will... but not sure.

Again I'm not shooting for big power.. I'm shooting for extremely fast boost response and drivability with a bit more pep. I'd venture to say 100-120hp would be plenty which is a fairly substantial gain...

I'll set my goal at a 100hp even.

Anyways... May sell these twins and pick up a slightly bigger charger if the numbers don't work out. We'll see...

Are those off of a motorcycle? Tiny! I wonder if they'd be big enough to run side by side... You could have what would probably be the first Bi-Turbo 240D, lol... Could be cool.

They are off of a '07 BMW 335i 3.0.. oddly enough, these little chargers are enough to make 300/300 at 8psi

I thought about actually keeping them twins.. but I dont think it would spool well and I dont really need it.. we'll see though.

Interesting, if they would spool that would be a very cool set up...

This is true.

I should know more in a few days as far as what to expect from them.

Those little TC's make that HP level on a gas engine but a diesel needs a lot more air for a given quantity of fuel.

You might want to look at the stock turbo on an OM606. They're tiny, barely adequate for at least the stock 175HP on that engine. I have one sitting in the garage if you want some dimensions.

If I were doing this, I would probably get a VGT from a Jeep CRD or a Sprinter 2.5l. But that opens up a whole other can of worms regarding control.

Oh, and if you can find a map for one of the tiny turbos you pictured, I can tell you how much HP it will support on a diesel.

I'm not looking for 300 though... I'm looking for 100 or so.

Here is a close map.. I'll see if I can find the exact one.

Thanks bud!

EDIT

WHY DOES THAT MAP HAVE TO BE IN cM/s?? lol

From some digging... .8 cubic meter/sec ~ 170cfm

170cfm ~ 13.6 lb/min

And depending on fueling, diesels make anywhere from 7-10hp per lb/min... so anywhere from 93-130hp at peak efficiency.

@74%... 200cfm... 14.7psi... anywhere from 120hp - 160hp

Does that sound right? I'm no math wiz... lol

OK, the magic spreadsheet says, for your 100 HP goal, using 2400 cc displacement and a 4750 RPM red line.

Pressure ratio:
1.37
Air flow:
13.93 #/min
224 CFM
.11 M3/Sec

Assuming no intercooler and IAT of 180, also VE of .92.

One of those turbos alone will not move enough air. The K16 or a 60 trim T3 would work and support HP levels up to 200.
