w123 radio issue

good morning gents,

thought I'd run this by the experts.

I have the original beck grand prix tape deck installed. 2 issues:

the radio volume is weak and the reception sucks.

but playing a cassette, the volume works fine.

also, when the antenna retracts, sometimes it'll hang up at the last 1/4" and I have to push it down with my thumb.

any ideas?

antenna motor is also original, works fine. just doesn't retract all the way once in a while. not sure if this is common

Run it all the way up and really clean it well...
if it still won't go all the way down it may have a tooth missing on the mechanism....
I think replacements are available.

Probably a variable resister ..... in that side of the circuit ..... may be listed as a potentiometer ... or pot...

volume weak and reception sucks could be symptoms of the same issue. is the head unit actually connected to the antenna? (does it behave the same if you unplug the antenna?)
