As long as it did not involve any structural damage ...like to the frame...which might make alignments impossible... would be good to find out exactly what the cause was...

Yeah, the right front corner was backed into.. costs $2500 for repairs. Excellent job though. Drives straight.
I thought someone on the forum would be looking for one with the knowledge that the miles doesn't matter that much.
I would lower the price if someone wanted to make an offer, but no one has offered anything...
Appreciate all the ideas and thoughts.
I would deliver it a reasonable distance ... but NJ??? Seriously? Good point though... we don't even talk about rust here.. just doesn't happen.

Don't bother to part it out, better to take less than you want. All the parts that will sell are the small parts, lights, switches, leaving you with a hulk to get rid of.
I made that mistake. If it cant fit in a small box or envelope, it isn't going to sell.

That's a good point but I have lots of room. Almost bought another one that is wrecked with the intention of saving some parts and selling the rest. It's probably in the wrecking yard by now. I don't want mine to end up there as long as it's a good running car.
If I don't get a decent offer over $2000 mine will probably just sit in the yard.

Parting out assumes that others are driving these cars and care enough about them to maintain them.

With a modern ( post 70's ) car lasting as long as it does, the supply of older cars continues to grow while the market shrinks.

Sell it for the $ 1,000 e bay offer and call it a day rather than let is sit and deteriorate to scrap steel value. ( $ 4.50 per 100 Lb right now, was above $ 12.00 some 4 years ago ) If might be worth $ 2,500 to the right person at the right time but how much effort are you able / willing to put forth? ( RE what is your time worth? )

I think any car in good running condition is worth $2000.
Rather than sell it for $1000 I'll park it in the yard and put targets on it for practice shootin.

I think you're off by a factor of between two and four. Anything for sale is worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

I've never understood that attitude, but it doesn't seem to be rare.

Skipster:

Nor do I understand the attitude itself, if genuine, but the expression of the attitude, on the other hand, seems calculated to keep this thread running. Witness this post!

I guess I don't understand why anyone would think I was serious about that...
Besides, I only shoot at Fords.
And, yes Frank, I am trying to keep this thread going to provide visibility for my car for sale.
Skippy, if you have good running cars up there for $500, you could ship them down here and make bank. I just sold a 2000 Silverado 4x4 with 215k miles on it for $4100 in one day and had many many calls on it. And it had a questionable engine ...

Why not just let it simmer for six months and then try again.

For a Chevy, Joe Lunchbox can fix it or have the local shop fix it. Anything more exotic caries the perception that repair costs will be extremely high, this pushes down purchase price.

The market shrinks even more for a 30 year old car that has a R title, those that know these cars, and are are not put off by a R title , are aware of this and expect a discount.

Does it snow in your area to any great degree? If no snow, a 4wd would carry more value to an off road guy than a regular consumer so that may have pushed the price.

Given the small market for a 30 year old car in apparently moderate condition, you may have to advertize and sit on it for a while.

You're asking too little.
Bump the price up to 5K and take offers.

It'll sell. Gloat the 30mpg... pimp the interior.

And put on some ghetto stage coach wheels . . offer buy here , pay here *

* Buy here, pay here works because large sums of cash are difficult to hide when purchasing from a car dealer but small sums over a period of time are not required to be reported.

I see the ad is now in our for sale section, it has 300,000 miles. The already small pool of people willing to buy such a car has shrunken dramatically.

I put some interior pics into the ad but they are down in the discussion as "they" only let you upload 5 pics.
