You are correct. I tend to forget about it because my early 124 didn't have it and the later one hasn't had starter problems. About 1993 (I think) K38 was added and connected to the alarm (ATA) wiring so the car would not start if the alarm was activated. This also gives us one more piece to fail in the starter chain!

that lockout relay is behind the gauges, you can bypass it to test the circuit.

Your lock problem maybe dirty contacts on the key tumbler, the little contacts activate the pump to lock/unlock the doors.

I didn't do anything with my car since last week as I was out of town, but now the car starts without any problems, the radio and the central locking now work. All I did was check a couple of fuses, maybe there was a poor contact on one or some of them.

Yup... The fuses can be replaced with cheapie aluminum strip plastic bodies that corrode and fail...

Replace ALL the fuses, and clean ALL the fuse holder contacts with metal Polish, and clean them well, then replace ALL the fuses with MB porcelain and SOLID copper or tinned copper fuses...
Solves all manner of oddities.
