300SDL vibration at higher speeds

My SDL is not much fun to drive above 60mph. The car gets a certain vibration which is not from the wheels I believe. If I hit the gas at 60mph it is vibrating very much but when I get off the gas at the same speed it is more or less silent. I was thinking fist it could be a badly balanced drive shaft... but then it should vibrate also when I am getting off the gas and not only if I hit it?

What are your experiences with the SDL?
I was driving the 6.9 now for some time and this car is just so smooth and silent in comparison.

Martin

I think half shafts are something which can vibrate under load but much less or not at all without....
Also check your center driveshaft bearing...

This is a great excuse to check out the flex disks. You don't want one letting go. The disk stays with the shaft and you only need to remove 1/2 of the bolts. Disks should be replaced if they have any cracks in them.

I just got a 240D and had a similar issue. While looking at the flex discs I noticed one of the bolts was loose. I snugged it up and it's much better. Just in case I bought new discs and center bearing and transmission mount. I'm going to work on those this weekend if it's not 100 degrees in the garage.

Thanks for the input. I'll check the flex disc and center driveshaft bearing for sure.
I also have a weird noise (acoustical...not a vibration) when I am coasting and the car is slowing down close to a stop. The noise is weird..metallic... as if a bearing is grinding.
Could that be a central bearing?
