I believe the service interval for regular duty is 60000 km or about 37000 miles.

Seeing how easy and cheap it is to replace the fluid and filter, and all the evidence pointing towards the importance of a clean filter (the slightest clog will cause immediate issues), plus the fact that these cars aren't getting any younger, I would service the transmission every 15k or so.

Looking at an owners manual for a W126 I see 36,000 miles or 18,000 miles severe.

It also says without filer change for the severe, but really? I have never changed oil or trans without doing the filter.

I certainly won't be going more than 20000 miles on a fluid and filter change from here out.

Well worth the extra attention to this important part of the auto trans.... the cost of repair on these is really high even IF you can find someone who can do it correctly....
