rough idle when warm

Enthusiasts-I have a 2005 cdi with 246,000 miles. It runs like a champ. I just returned yesterday, the 11th, from Vail Co. to Tampa. While in Vail, I had the car serviced for a tire balance and oil change in Westminister Co and drove back to Vail on the 31st of Aug. Upon shutting the car off, the idle was extreemly rough. Thereafter upon startup, it ran as usual, smooth, until warm. I checked under the hood for any obvious sighs of a problem. I drove from Vail to Tampa in 3 days with no problem except for the very rough idle (like it was going to stall), with the same symptoms, smooth at start up and rough when warm. No problems at highway speed. At one time, I had a similar problem but not as bad and it turned out to be the voltage regulator which smoothed out the idle. I checked my records and a while back, I changed the positioning sensor as a precaution. The problem only shows itself when the vehicle is warm or hot. I do most of the maintainence myself and would like to find this problem. Egr valve? Replaced at about 30,000 mi. Mass air sensor? Any thoughts or places to start? No codes. There were no problems at all until that one shut off, nothing leading up to the violent idle. It is rather rough, like a gas engine with one plug bad. Again ok at start up. Thanks. Steve

Isn't the CDI the engine with the very long oil fill procedure that ought not be circumvented?

Which oil? The motor oil was changed by the dealer and I have changed it numerous times myself, since new, also the trans fluid numerous times. I don't understand your response. steve
