Have carefully checks and ensured that all 4 wire boots on the doors are tight and secure? Mine would only start to visibly leak after bout a minute or two of the hose running over the door jam. If your getting that much water inside you need to pull out ALL the carpet if you haven't already, as well as the b pillar trim. Then, after its dried, carefully and methodically let the hose sit in each possible leak location for at lest 3-4 minutes while you sit inside and watch. Thats how I found mine.

Also, as I previously mentioned, if you have water pooling there, you need to pull out the rear seats and carpet and pull out the door lock vacuum pump, it will be soaked, I guarantee it.

You NEED to use the factory service manual. There are clips and screws hidden everywhere. You will break them all otherwise. I cannot stress this enough.

Here is a link

Water on the floor! 1987 300TD

Thanks Dude. Poring through that now. Any tips on where to look first? It's a huge site and I'm on the phone inside the car.

Also, I should mention. The carpet in the front half of the wagon is one piece. (the area forward of the cargo area). So if this is your daily driver you will need to find something else to drive in the meantime as to remove the carpet you need to remove:
-the seats both front and back
-the entire centre console
-the plastic door sill trim
-the b pillar trim
-and probably a lot of other things I've forgotten about since I've done it.

Like I said before, its not hard as long as you follow the FSM, its just very labour intensive. Budget yourself a full day to remove the carpet the first time. Have lots of baggies and a sharpie to label where all the screws came from and take your time.

You'll first want to select the OM603 engine since yours is a diesel, then I believe you'll probably want to start in section 63.... It is really better to view this on a full size screen. I have a desktop computer in my garage for the sole purpose of reading manuals while I work on things like this... If you have a laptop now would be the time to use it.

Hmmm. FSM says one of the causes of water entering front is battery tray? I recently removed the battery tray to clean and paint it...I wonder.

Water on the floor! 1987 300TD

Ok, with the help of my daughter running water on the front windshield, the previously dried footwell started filling up with water!! I think I may have found at least the big leak!

Can't seem to see where it comes from though. Like it wells up from below. I'm gonna run more water and I let my young one with the better eyes look for the leak.

HA! I must be less than 15 minutes away from you, small world. I can't answer if its supposed to look like that or not as I don't have a w124 anymore to go and take a look at. However, be absolutely sure that your front windscreen drains are perfectly clear.

When I was doing mine I also pulled the battery tray and resealed around the studs and area that the FSM mentions with some silicone.

Given the amount of water your getting I would think it might me a plugged drain.

With the hood open can you see if the "pipes" are lined up where the gutters drain? It's easier to see on the drivers side. Looks like the very top half moon weatherstrip isn't quite smooth with the glass. Good luck sounds like you found the entry point anyways.
