warped rotors, best repalcement?

just curious what you guys think is the best replacement pad/rotor combo for our cars. mine is a 92 300d, and there seems to be a lot of choices out there.
my main concern is quietness. thanks in advance!

I'm using Balo Coated rotors with Textar OE compound pads. They're very quiet, but they are dusty as hell! Next time I do a brake job, I'm going to get ceramic pads. They're quiet AND they don't dust up the rims as much.

What vstech said or ATE rotors as they are Mercedes-Benz original equipment, as are the calipers.

I will chime in for OE dealer rotors as well. My wagon has dealer rotors on it and has sat for extended periods (including entire northeast winters) for the five years since I got it. The brakes are perfect, just a little squeal in the spring that clears up after some driving.

In contrast, I parked my '85 300d for two months this summer, in very humid and wet weather. When I went to get it back on the road all four rotors had rusted so badly they were unusable. Zimmerman, two years old.

I just installed dealer replacements, though Mercedes Benz Canada was beyond extortionate on the price. (I needed the car back on the road and couldn't wait to order stuff from the USA, where even with exchange on our weak dollar they are less than half the price I paid locally.)

vstech, where are you finding dealer rotors for $30? I called Mercedes of south charlotte and they want $66.

There are several dealers that have online parts stores....for example, Mercedes-Benz Parts - Genuine OEM | MBOEMParts.com. If you're resourceful, you can even find free shipping promo codes. On two separate occasions, I've bought rotors from an MB dealer at 26% discount, no tax, and free shipping.

Try over $100 each in SoCal. Get ATE rotors at any of the online parts retailers.

mercedes of south charlotte... I have the recipt in the car. just bought them last week. ... I'm a wholesale customer though... list price could be higher.

I've never paid list price at a dealer.

I always ask for business rate. I give a company name.

Greyhunter,

I just went through the drill. I've used aftermarket rotor & pads for the last two brake jobs. Rotors did not last (subtle warping over time...no stuck calipers, collapsed brake lines, etc. to overheat and warp the rotors) like the originals that lasted some 200,000k.

I read & read, asked & asked (prior threads), and after pricing shipping etc. trying to save a few bucks (maybe $20 total) I just went to the dealer...full retail @ $65 with no special deals.

Put them on and braking is smooth as molasses. I can't believe I was pinching for less than a large pizza.

Go with the dealer, you won't be sorry.

PS I too was shocked at how affordable the dealer is on rotors & pads. I've burned many an extra dollar on MB Dealer parts, and try to buy equivalents online. However in this case its a no brainer.

Okay, THANK YOU for saying how smooth the dealer brake parts are. I thought my imagination had been working overtime since I installed them.

My 300d has never had the great braking feel it has now. I always thought it was weird, given that my wagon has north of 250k and the sedan is under half that... yet the wagon's brakes have always been soooooo much better.

I put Bosch rotors and pads on my front wheels about 8 months ago, and I'm really impressed with how well the car stops when I have to hit the brakes hard. They are dusty though and squeak every once in a while.

I have Brembo rotors on the front of both my 300TE and 400E and ATE rotors on the rear of both cars. I'm also using Akebono pads on both since I can't stand the amount of brake dust that the Textar or other OE pads put off. I'm about 12k miles into the brakes on the wagon and I'm very pleased with the quality of the brakes.

What is the discount rate off dealer list pricing @ your MB dealer where you have a wholesale customer account?
