Here are pictures of my retrofit, the cooling system is operating like a charm!
What is the part number you used? Thanks

The 350SD/SDL uses the same coolant bottle as the 300SDL. I installed the new one I had on the 300SDL in the 350SD to replace the crusty yellow one it came with. Perfect fit.

That’s what I thought. And doesn’t look unlike what I know to be the 617 bottle. Thus why I was somewhat confused by the OP.

Go back and look at your 350SD. The coolant bottle is unique only to the 86-87 300SDL and 90-91 350SD/SDL. It's designed to wrap around the side of the air filter box and sink down beside it.

I personally think a better solution than hacking up the firewall and deleting the washer bottle would be just to replumb the air filter and use a more generic coolant bottle.

I didn't realize that 'coolant bottle' was slang for expansion tank. And yes, I knew something was weird in the OP pic - of course, the washer reservoir was deleted. I likes me some of that. Maybe another unit could be put in front of the retrofit coolant bottle, a smaller one perhaps. Not a pleasant idea, but my take at present is that a new SDL coolant bottle is harder to get than a replacement radiator. Mine is old as hell, surprised it hasn't leaked yet.

No, an expansion tank is different. The expansion tank is an unpressurized bottle. There’s liquid in there to keep a liquid seal and prevent air from getting in.

A coolant bottle like ours is part of the system. In some it’s somewhat part of the flow path. I suppose the best clue is when it’s pressurized, and you fill the whole system through it.
