The burl is a little nipple on the lower side.

14 mm for the spring with blue mark & 19 mm for the spring with red mark.

While looking under the car today I could find no color bands on the rear springs, however on the driver front spring I found clearly marked blue and yellow markings.

Do I still use 14mm for the front? And are 19mm used for the rear?

There are different pads for the front springs then for the rear ones.
8, 13, 18 & 23 mm.

Does you car has got el. sliding roof or additional heater (S.A. code 228)?

My car does have a moon roof, as for an additional heater, not that I am aware of.

The "correct" buffers for your car are the ones that put the car at the ride height that you want.

Consider that after 35 years in service the springs might, just might, have sagged a few millimeters, as might the rubber suspension bushings.
If you wish for "MB Correctness" (akin to political correctness), replace, with new MB parts, every possible suspension component that might be subject to wear or aging.

There are two kinds of color marks on the spring. The first kind is coded p/n (blue-blue-yellow on the pic) and the second is coded version of the definite p/n spring (red on the pic).
A single red mark is for shorter and harder spring and a single blue mark is for longer and softer spring.

The picture that you uploaded helped a lot, thank you. I have confirmed the Yellow-blue-blue markings and a large red marking at the bottom of the spring. This is on both front springs. I found no marking on the rear, I have not taken the wheel off. My observations were from both sides of the spring though.

I have plans to rebuild the suspension, that is indeed why I am asking, as well as for future resourcefulness.

Use 23 mm (A 123 321 16 84) rubber pads for front springs.

MB produced approximately 7 paper manuals for each of our cars....
You should find and read the Chassis Manuals... ( TWO ) for your car before proceeding if you want it really like new....
The correct height is NOT " what you want it to be"....
as there are heights which will not allow the front end to be adjusted correctly.
All the specs are in the Chassis Manuals..... including exact measurements from the ground for several places on the chassis....

The manuals ... since I can see people about to ask that...
ARE :
Engine, 617 turbo or ( 615,616,617non turbo)
Transmission, there may be one for Auto and one for Manual
Chassis one
Chassis two
Air conditioning
Maintenance manual general which includes different car tech service corrections for your car
Original Maintenance manual....
Electrical Manual
