On a diesel board my name s/b self evident. I began using the name back in the days of the mbz.org forum. Which now that I think about it was 15 + years ago. Time flies when you're driving slow and belching coal.

Ya want vintage? How about lunar lander on the II or Oregon trail... I loved all the zork games... Still have I II AND III... On my old C-64.. That I also still have... Along with waaaaaayyyyy too many consoles and vintage computers...
I need to get them all lined up and take some pics some day...

You guys can probably figure mine out w/o issue. I lack the imagination for anything more interesting and besides I have nothing to hide.

Came here when I started sticking together the S-10 now known as Mutt. I had these Mercedes bits and had no clue what to do with them. I'm still stumbling. Really, this has been a great help, like knowing that the 240D Getrag would bolt up behind the OM617 and the 240D flywheel might or might not work OK (mine's fine). This is the kind of stuff you don't just KNOW and the forum has helped a ton with this kind of stuff. I try to post what I've learned as an attempt at paying back just a little.

Actually, it's more complicated.

"Stokes" is my Dad's stepfather's name - our real last name ought to be "Stine", German for "stone". Either way, the common explanation for the last name "Stokes" (which is English) is that these folks were fire tenders - they stoked the fire. No clue if this applies to our family.

Interesting side note: Here in NC there is a Stokes county containing the town of Stokesdale. There was a plantation owner there named Stokes, hence the black Stokes' that you sometimes run across. Mayor Carl Stokes of Cleveland is one example. Again, nothing to do with our family.

Aren't you sorry you brought this up!!??

I think I've got it.

Your real name must be Peter Hill.

Too many Benz was already taken, or else I'm sure my wife/family/daughters would have forced me to use that (they have a low tolerance for extra cars).

Gastropod is latin for "stomach foot" - the scientific name for slugs. I originally chose it because I thought my 240D was going to be a slug, but as it turns out the little blue Benz moves acceptably in traffic (note that I didn't say it was fast).

I see your "Lunar Lander" and raise you with "Donkey" on the IBM PC:

Most of my gaming memories from back then were early DOS games on the IBM. But I still have a Coleco Frogger game from the early 80s:

If you every played one of those growing up, that music will stick in your brain for weeks.

Sorry for the off-topic post. Please don't report me to the MODs.
