When you removed the injectors, did everything seem OK with the prechambers looking in from the injector hole?

do you have clear return hose? can you tell if any air bubbles are in the line? a leak in the line leading to the lift pump could introduce an air stream making the nailing sound...

You can tell if the pintle looks intact...perhaps....
but you can not tell anything about the 7 or so tiny holes drilled radially in the bottom of the precombustion chamber by looking in there...
you have to take them out to inspect and clean those holes....and those holes are very important to the proper dispersion of the fuel in your engine.

Where, where, oh where is this mysterious station that sells red tinted off road diesel in Tucson???? I hate having to pay any extra taxes or fees when buying diesel fuel for my tractor, but I've yet to find a place that sells red diesel, although I've heard rumors about it. Please - DO TELL!
You can buy red diesel at the fill island, possibly out at the car pump islands as well, at Arizona Petroleum off Cherry and 21st. You can also buy it by the barrel. I buy a 100+gal for a generator every year or so. But your going to pay AZ sales tax on that red diesel, as opposed to road tax.

Road tax comes out to to $0.514/gal. Tucson sales tax is 8.1%. For small quantities, red diesel is often more per gallon than (regular diesel - road tax) cost. For several years, when diesel was up over $3.50-$4/gal, the difference didn't amount to much and red may actually cost more. Recently that has flipped the other way though...

Right, you can't see the holes but you could see the ball and any large major cracks or pits in the walls.
