I had to post in Diesel discussion - 87 300D with 90k miles for sale

Check this jewel out. It must be nice if the dealer has it.

I hope they scrape off the military sticker before they sell the car... that's treason the general leaving it on... SERIOUS security risk there...

nice that it's still got the football on it.

Most installations have eliminated stickers and those that use them have changed them into something not recognizable as military.

Not any more. Now closed installations have super security at gates. You drive in, show at least one badge or CAC and they check ur plate at the same time. you can't back up or ur tires are shredded, 12 ton barrier stops u in front within 20 feet.

This way, any SES can drive around town and no one knows he/she's an SES

^that is what I was thinking. Wonder if the dealer would perform the recall on it prior to selling if asked.

Isn't that a lifetime recall? Looks like a new windshield washer reservoir! If I had extra 4500 I would buy that car.. Probably not many like this one left.

Shouldn't the washer reservoir have two pumps?

Those Michelin Pilot AS2s (?) were the best tire I had on my '87 300D

I did not know they changed body style so much. My 82 is so much bigger. Anyway, is the I6 as good at the I5?

That is a very nice one and the price is pretty reasonable for the miles and condition.

I would say it is better -- it has different issues (heads that crack, hydraulic valve followers that need replacement, etc), but is the first modern diesel from MB, with a cross-flow head resulting in better efficiency and loads of torque.

I had a very rough example of this car 6 or 5 years ago. I bought it in a package deal that included a mint Lincoln mark VI for $3000...it was so smooth and very quick. I know these had about 148hp. Can't remember tq figures but it would pull to 100mph very quickly.

I unloaded mine pretty quick because it tended to run hot here in Ga and I had so many fuel delivery problems that I could only trace down to the injection pump. I was not about to go down that road. So I always had to park it on a hill nose first so it would start and pray for no steep hills wherever I was going...lol.

Car was a blast but a challenge. Believe it or not but I sold it for $3500 to a complete nut job.

I have emailed with a nice lady by the name of Kerri at the dealership. She told me the price has been reduced to $4995 and they are open to offers. She is checking on the trap o recall and getting back to me later.
