NEED MEASUREMENT OF CV "CAN"

Anybody know the size of the cv "can" where the boot attaches for a 1984 SD? I bought the Dorman blue split boot kit, and cut the huge end off. Would like to get a plastic bottle the same size as the "can" to see if it fits.
Thanks.

I can measure a set tonight... hard to get a good measure with the axle in the way... I don't know if I have a caliper that large.

I found an ad for EMPI boot with a diagram. 2.825 dia.
Got a similar size bottle, no where close to fitting into blue split boot.
If I end up pulling axles, I would like to use the Febi W0133-1637895.
It looks heavier than the Dormans I used before, but will they go over the cone? Guess I'll have to buy one and test it.

Ok Ryan I dug out my info. on boot size on my 85 300sd I am speaking of the inner axle boot I have wrriten down that big side is (70mm-2.75" ) and small side (26mm-1.02") . The closest match I have found is speedi-boot part#03606 which is 75mm×24mm bolt together boot which I make fit and has worked fine for many yrs. I dont think I have had to replace the outer axle boot to this day yet so I have no sizes on that can.

Ok, thanks. Just sent for a pair of the speedi-boots 03606. I'll give them a try.

How did you make them fit?

For the end that is too big I got some old rubber that I had laying around might have even been from the old boot I cut off used it for a spacer and for the end that is too small I added a small peice of flat rubber and then clamp it up very good to keep the lube inside and the elements out. Has worked surprisingly well for thousands of miles now. I sure wish Dorman or speediboot would make the exact fit but at this point they do not maybe if enough of our members would contact them and show the need for our many old cars on the road yet they would make exact fit boots. I prefer the bolt together kind have never tried the glue together ones as just do'nt trust it would hold up. Cannot remember when I last replaced a cv joint if you catch it soon enough saves a lot of time, money, and trouble.
