It`s official, 240D`s are slow.

This has been beat to death, that a 240D is slow.

Now it has been officially documented this is true.

Now I`ll zoom off in my trusty old 240D. Klatta;;;;;;;Klatta;;;;;;Klatta;;;;;;

I once had a 1983 300D with turbo that I thought was slow. I've never driven a 240 or 190. The 350SDL that I have now is not slow at all. I guess durability comes at a price!

A lot of 240ds are slower than they could be. Simply no proper actually inexpensive self applied maintenance on the engine and systems. Far, far too often.

They still beat walking most of the time. Unless walking uphill.

You don't see the lady of the estate running down the drive. She travels at a stately pace. So don't think of it as "slow", think of it as "stately". Kind of like the bride slowly making her way down the aisle.

Just stay the Hell out of my way or I'll run yer fanny over with my over-powered Dodge!

I'll never forget the results I got from my first valve adjustment on a 240D years ago. The first time I hit a hill after the adjustment, I was amazed at how well the car was climbing.

That maintenance sure is huge. My 617 got MUCH peppier as I took care of maintenance headaches.

As barry said....

The 240D just doesn't have any horsepower to spare, to waste to neglected maintenance...

Also again, as I try to say....Remove the ADA off the injection pump, to get some extra horsepower to the engine....as with age, the ADA will restrict the flow of fuel to the car....

Word is that the county council painted that a few months after Charlie moved there, so he would know which lane to use....

Slow? I've gotten a 240D auto up to 95mph

Only took about 5 miles of building speed going up and down hills

I really don't think my 240D would even free fall that fast... but I have seen a sustained 85 for a level stretch. Smooth as silk... and quiet as a blender full of bolts.

Some members name their cars. I do not recall if molasses or rocket ship has been used for a 240d yet.

These are delightful cars and to me although using the same chassis seem to be quite different from the 300ds.

Kind of the first tractor with an all weather cab capable of modest highway speeds. Still with the associated tractor noises. I have little doubt that somewhere in the world one has even pulled a small plow. Or performed some agricultural function.
