Diesel exhaust used for plant fertilizer.

With all of the bad press recently I thought this was interesting.

Emission farmers save thousands on fertilisers by ploughing in diesel fumes - ABC Rural (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

Makes sense... nitrogen is what all but legumes need to grow... if the exhaust flows through a solute, you could certainly dissolve the NOX into a solution for fertilizers. .. neat! now VW needs to market it!

Simple as well. Just haul a lot of dirt around in a utility trailer with the exhaust pipe feeding into it. Change the dirt frequently.

No, it would require routing the exhaust into a water solution to leach the nitrates into a solution that could be used as a fertilizer... Dirt wouldn't cut it...

Okay you are right. A tank of water on a utility trailer then. Much more efficient than damp earth. A portable hydronic grow operation perhaps. Changing one kind of smoke to another.

We could then drive our diesels for the happiness factor.

Before ULSD, farmers in my area did not need to apply as much sulphur. Now they have to buy it and either have another piece of equipment or pay someone to do it. Either option requires another pass over their field that equals to more diesel consumed.

They need to just add the sulfur to the diesel!
