1982 300d, pics of engine bay

Hello guys,

been a while, but i recently saved another w123 from the crusher. this time it was a 1982 300D turbo and all. $500 bucks after sitting for a long time. Got it running in 3 glow plug cycles and drove away on her own power to my house. needs a lot of stuff brakes etc.

Long story short she will not shut off without me opening the hood and doing it manually. Could anyone post pictures of unmolested or in good working order 1982 300d engine bays?

here are few pictures.

first pic shows vcv, and directly under is your shutoff. you can see the brown vacuum line originating from there.

I'd check to see if the shutoff vac element is functional. may need a replacement.

theres a good writeup here: http://dieselgiant.com/repairyourshutoffvalve.htm

Your main vac line has been hacked, they aren't too expensive, I would replace that which will help get vacuum where it needs to be.

Looking closer, you have an open line, the afore mentioned vac line is supposed to connect the check valve, the four way rubber connector is not stock, but if connected may work.

you'll also notice in my pics that the yellow vac check valve was plugged. I had to re-organize the lines due to the vacuum pods under the dash that are no good.

you may want to mighty vac the lines and just plug the bad ones to get your engine/trans running correctly.

then you can sort out the door locks, defrost vents, etc.

you may also want to consider a new rubber plug for the 3/2 vacuum valves sitting in the black box on top of the valve cover.

the rubber connectors are easy to replace and will make a huge difference.

excellent thank you! i will try to mess with it more and get it figured out. will start replacing some of the fittings and lines and figure out where and if the leak is.

the one in the picture is not hooked up was until just shortly before i took this picture.

Thanks again for the tips and good pictures.
