Wow! I'm assuming that is dry weight. Much heavier than I thought. This is making me rethink pulling a unit at PicknPull, especially solo.

How do you pickers go about removing one at a facility that doesn't allow jacks?

Here is how I've done it, and I've done several.

- Unbolt the crossmember and remove the rear mount.
- totally remove the driveshaft so it will not get in the way.
- unhook shifter linkages and wiring.
- remove torque converter bolts
- remove all bellhousing and starter bolts.
- make sure Bowden cable will not snag on anything.
- if you are able, remove dipstick tube. If not, just deal with it as the trans drops.
- go to a small Japanese import vehicle with a crappy dirty looking back seat bottom cushion. Preferably flat and firm thick cushion. Remove it from the car and place it under the trans you are removing.
- with your long pry bar and with you not in the way, start to pry around the bellhousing to loosen the trans from the engine.
- once you get to the point where you feel the trans needs one little pry before falls off, get ready for it to do so.
- pry it, and watch and hope it falls directly on the seat cushion. If you have the dipstick still attached, try to keep it from hanging up.
-once it's on the cushion, drag the cushion out from under the car.
-then roll it away on your dolly.

Hope that helps...

I think there are some things which should not be attempted SOLO....
There is a reason for ' the buddy system'.... even if just to have someone there to call 911 if needed....
and wear goggles when under a car... a tiny spec of rust falling on the eyeball... does not wash out ... a Dr has to remove it... wonder how I know that ? Twice ....

The PickNPull's here have big chain hoists on rolling frames with wide-set wheels, sufficient for the largest commercial diesels I would imagine. I once put a big-block V-8 engine w/ tranny in my 65 Chrysler using a "2 ton come-along" (i.e. "fence puller") to a garage beam (three 2"x12" pine bolted together spanning 14'). One guy in Atlanta once related how him and 3 brothers "thowed a V-8" out of a Chevy by hand. Said they were big guys. You will be fine with that little (but beefy) 5 cyl.

Sorry. I have not weighed one lately but did recently ship a 52 Cadillac tranny which weighed 92#. Since I have picked up the mb tranny and carried it around I cannot imagine how it could possibly weigh 143#. did that include the oak pallet?

Not calling anybody a liar. If I'm right it would simply be an honest mistake...If I am wrong, same.

This particular 722.303 was weighed by itself not on any pallet. It had it's fluid drained, except maybe the TC had some left over.

Now Tom, are you sure you are talking about a 722.3xx trans? The 722.1xx and 722.4xx are a bit lighter than the 722.3xx.
