87 300D - No fuel through lines after injector rebuild

Good Day!

Finally got around to putting in rebuilt injectors in my wife's 300D. Injectors have been out for approximately 6 weeks while I was cleaning and rebuilding them. Had my son install the injectors and everything looks great.

We cranked the engine and she does not fire. I understand the injectors are self priming and we just need to keep cranking.

I wanted to make sure we were getting fuel down the hard lines so I loosened the bolt on Line 1. No Fuel while cranking. Repeated with Line 2. No Fuel while cranking. There is fuel in the tank. There is fuel up to the clear primary filter.

What did we do wrong? I assume we should be getting fuel through the lines no matter what. :-/

Thank You All!!!

My preference is to fill the filter to the top with ATF (just because I trust that it's filtered well), then put it all together, lubricates the IP well and saves a lot of cranking.

If the pre-filter is not filling with fuel you need to figure out if/where there is a leak letting air in (before the lift pump), or if the lift pump is bad.

Another option is to put a fuel line from the inlet on the lift pump directly into a quart bottle of diesel (or again my preference for cheap ATF. Once it starts and runs decent shut it down and re-connect the lines (before you run out of temporary fuel).

leave all of the lines open at the injectors until fuel comes out each one while cranking.

I remember while repeatedly cranking a 603 sometimes the IP stop lever would stay down. Maybe the key switch was showing age. Pull the vacuum hose from the shutoff actuator or wire the lever in the run position until you get it started.

If you're having trouble priming, here are a few tips:

Fill the tank full if you can, and jack up the rear so the tank is above the motor.

Crack all the injector hardlines at the injector and leave them loosened until you see fuel come out.

I too fill the spin on filter with ATF after a filter change.

Crank in 30 second intervals and allow the starter to rest for 5 minutes in between. Put the accelerator pedal to the floor while cranking.

Once you see fuel spraying out of the hardkine, snug it down and move to the next. It'll eventually sputter on a few cylinders and attempt to run.
