backseat problems

My backseat passengers have always had to enduresome problems that my car has in the back.
a) the back of the front passenger seat is not secured properly and falls off ont people all the time

b) the passenger side of the rear seat is not pusehd back all the way and locked itno place on top of the little tower type thing under the seat. This is just something that bothers me when I look at it.

adiaw83,

I cannot help with the back of the front seat falling off, as I have never seen this and have never tried to take the seat apart. With regard to the rear bench, there are two red handles on the bottom front edge of the bench. These should have an arrow or some clue as to which way to push them to unlock the back bench. You should try taking the bench out and then look for things that may be interfering with the seat being able to be pushed far enough back, under the rear backrest to have the locking features (attached to the red handles) engage.

I have seen the red handles and the spring clip locking feature they make fall off. If yours has fallen off you will have nothing to engage the little hole in the frame work the bench sits on that locks the seat in its position. I imagine you can order a new one or get one from a junk yard.

In general, the rear of the bench goes under the seat back, anchoring it there, and the two spring locking clips, one on each side of the bench (left and right side of the car) engage in these holes in the support framing under the bench. That is all that there is, so you may just need to push the seat all the way back, under the seat back so the clips line up with the holes. Once they line up, push down pretty hard and clips will lock into the holes and the seat will be pinned in its position. You do one side at a time, and have to make sure the seat belts are up on the bench before you start locking the seat in position. I routinely remove the seats to clean sand and stuff the kids bring in from the beach (and the dog when someone lets him in there without a cover on the seats) out from under the bench. I tie the seat belts to the head rests so they don't hang me up.

Hope this helps, Jim

Regarding trim panel on back of front seat...

I think what is happening is that you dont have it pushed up all the way, and the attachement screw at the botton is probably missing the proper screw hole.

Check to make sure there are no obstructions in the upper recess and two side recesses (into which the panel slides). You may find some MBtex bunched up there preventing the panel from sliding in properly. Then get some "sylglide" silicone lubricant and apply a little to the sides and top edge of the panel....this will help the panel more easily slide into the recesses.

When you install the panel, hold the bottom and push up hard....the top edge of the panel should go up about a half inch into the upper recess.

Make sure panel goes up enough for screw at bottom to be screwed into proper screw hole.

(these panels are a pain...every time I put one back, it takes me 10 minutes to fine the correct screw hole for the bottom screw).

Good Luck

Mark

OH You have an SD

Sorry about that, I just noticed your panel is a little different than on 123 body...my comments still may apply regarding the top of the panel, but the sides are different.

Again, good luck.
